As the economic landscape continues to change and evolve, there is a swiftly growing need for capital support and increased education for both aspiring and seasoned business owners. Although resources exist, many entrepreneurs struggle with financial and knowledge-based obstacles that can potentially halt their course to success.
Fortunately for small businesses in South Carolina, help and assistance are not far away thanks to entities such as CommunityWorks (CW). CW is a strong and proven economic partner throughout South Carolina founded to provide equitable lending, investing, and financial education.
Ever ready to influence positive change, promote development, and provide innovation in business, CW proudly supports the economic infrastructure of South Carolina by providing resources and funding opportunities for entrepreneurs and community development projects.
CW’s main education arm is the CommunityWorks Women’s Business Center (WBC). The CW WBC is part of a national network of centers designed and funded in part by federal agency, the Small Business Administration, to assist women in starting and growing small businesses.
National research indicates that women tend to encounter a unique set of barriers when establishing and scaling their businesses than men. The SBA WBCs exist to level the playing field for women entrepreneurs by providing technical assistance, education, tools, and resources.
Staying true to the mission and vision of CW and SBA, the CW WBC hosts a variety of trainings, workshops, and networking opportunities for all levels of local and regional business owners including idea phase, start-up, growth, expansion, and exit.
According to CW CEO, LaTorrie Geer, “The CW WBC has been a great addition to the economic development products and services that CommunityWorks has provided since 2008. Although the WBC has only been around for three years, we’ve already seen tremendous impact for our clients. We’re excited about the plans and progress our WBC is bringing, and we look forward to expanding the CW footprint with our amazing partners.”
Upcoming CW WBC trainings include “What’s Your Why Wednesdays,” a weekly education and networking series that helps entrepreneurs navigate the business world. What’s Your Why Wednesdays will be available until August 23, 2023, when the popular 10-week course “MicroEntrepreneur Training” begins. In addition to these and other events, interested entrepreneurs may sign up on the CommunityWorks website for a no-cost discovery session with the CW WBC staff to learn more about opportunities to expand their business.
