Empowered By CommunityWorks: Little Me Childcare Center

Spartanburg native Kesha Williams has always been devoted to serving others. With two daughters, a granddaughter, and a marriage of over 25 years, her life has been rooted in family and community. When Kesha set out to start a business as a second career, she had one goal: to make a difference in the Northside community. This mission led her to open Little Me Childcare Center, a safe, nurturing space for children.

Building a Dream

Kesha and her husband started their search for the right location with a strong sense of purpose. “I felt like this was a place God wanted me to be, to help serve the community and be a pillar here,” Kesha says. Over four years Little Me Childcare Center has grown into a thriving center serving 50 children, with plans to expand to accommodate another full classroom of 20.

Community Support: The Key to Success

From the very start, Kesha knew that she needed support from her community to make her vision come to life. Programs such as  CommunityWorks’ Business Center trainings and  Start:ME Spartanburg offered the resources and guidance she needed to grow. “When I don’t know something, there’s always someone in these organizations who can help me,” she says.

In the early days, Kesha received a $5,000 loan from CommunityWorks to buy a van for transporting children from eight different schools in the area. “The support from CommunityWorks has been amazing,” Kesha shares. “I’ve had an incredible experience with the classes and resources. Even when I can’t attend in person, I log into Zoom. They’re so inspiring and it’s a breath of fresh air.” The microloan from CommunityWorks and the Business Center’s MicroEntrepreneur Training gave Kesha the tools she needed to become a better business owner and the confidence to move forward.

Thriving Through Challenges

Opening in 2020 just as the pandemic began, Kesha’s dedication was put to the test. Little Me Childcare Center stayed open to support essential workers and other families who needed childcare. In recognition of her commitment, Kesha received a “Childcare Hero” award.

Despite all odds, business flourished. Now at full capacity, Kesha is working to increase occupancy and open another classroom. “I love being here. I love my work. I love making a difference. That’s something to be proud of and thankful for,” she says.

Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs

For Kesha, her mission is clear: to serve her community and bring positive change to her neighborhood. “Write it down. Make the vision plain. Put it on paper. If you can’t see yourself in your vision, it’s time to rethink it. A closed hand doesn’t get fed,” she says.

Kesha’s journey with Little Me Childcare Center continues to be a source of inspiration for others. Her passion, faith, and dedication to the Northside community are a testament to her belief that “when you give to the community, it gives back.” With the support of partners like CommunityWorks, Kesha’s vision of service and care has come to life.
